It was a hot summer night and we decided to get the bikes out and go for a ride. So we went and got our gear on and pulled out, no place in mind to go just wanted to ride. So we headed out down on Euclid, I was leading the pack and minding my own business when I heard a soft horn blow to my left. So I looked over to my left and here is this mini van with a mom and two girls in, it just waving and giving me a thumbs up. I smiled and waved back. The van decided to kind of stay right next to me as I see one of the little girls yelling out the window, "I love your bike." All I could do was say Thank you, but inside I was thinking to myself this is to cool. When was the last time you were just out for a ride and someone, out of the blue, said those words to you? Well as I and the van came to a red light I could see all three of them really checking out the bike so I gave them more than a look, I pressed down on the gas a little and gave them a loud Harley roar and they loved it! The one girl was so impressed I think if her mom would of allowed it she would of hopped on the back and went for a ride. It amazes me everyday some of the things people say to me or the looks they give me when I ride, I have had rude things said to me, specially since i'm a woman and then I have things like that day, that just made me feel like not only was I enjoying my night but I just made those two girls day to.
If your thinking about getting bike, but not sure if you can afford it. Here are a few things you may want to consider. A motorcycle gets great gas mil age and with gas prices on the rise and everyone trying to do their part for the planet, you can get around 42mpg in the city to 57mpg on the highway! Now that is great gas mileage it's gonna be hard to find a car that even touches that. The other thing I hear a lot of people say is they can't afford a Harly. Well i'm here to tell you bull, you can get a brand new Harly Davidson for around $10,000 of course that is one of the sportster models but hey I tell you what you will get more respect out of the biker community riding on a Harley Sportster than you will on a Honda Goldwing! Another great thing that Harley offers is on their website at Harley-davidson.com you can explore all their bikes, look at specs and even the options that you may want and they will give you the price and even let you know about how much your payment will be. Also when you get a new bike you get a free one year membership into H.O.G. This is a great program, they offer free road side service, free entry into all H.O.G event and trust me those are a blast! You get a free magazine of new things coming out and stories of everyday people doing things on their bikes. Plus a lot of other perks. So if your sitting there thinking, "I would love to own a bike." Then you really need to check out Harley's website and see what they offer.
IF you love being around others who love the Harley lifestyle as much as you do, then you need to go to a Rodeo!!! This not only contains events such as a bike show and a variety of contest done on bikes they also have great bands there. The rodeo starts on Thursday and goes until Sunday, August 19-22. It is a fun filled weekend of bikes, booze and boobs! Oh and don't forget the contest. I have been going to this event for 5 years and plan on going as long as i can! A large group of us go and just enjoy every minute of it. There are people there from all walks of life, you get your motorcycle clubs there to your everyday average rider, from young(18) to grandma and grandpa. I have talked to people as far west as Cali and far east as Jersey! So if your looking for something fun and new differently take a look at the easyridersevents.com for all the details. I also in closed a few pictures to give you an idea of what goes on at the rodeo.
I picked this video because a lot of Americans are feeling that way these days. I work with the public and I can't tell you how many times in a given shift I hear people say, " yep, that's just one more thing the government is trying to take from us." or something of that nature. Then I saw this video and it is right. There are days were you feel like that or your just having a bad day, but you get out on that bike, find an open highway and wow your troubles just melt away...well until you have to go home.
Fat, dark and strong—a custom icon that's the new big dog on the road. Check it out at Harley-Davidson® Fat Boy® Lo Even though most people feel that motorcycles are for men, Well I'm sure glad that Harley don't feel that way! Harley came out with this gorgeous bike that is just perfect for the females, specially for us short ones! I just wish this bike was available when I bought mine. When I started looking for a bike I didn't even bother to look at the bigger bikes due to the fact that I'm so short, the best bike that fit me was the 1200 low custom sportster, now don't get me wrong I love my bike! However, The fatboy has been one of my favorite bikes since they came out, but with my height if i was to get one I would of had to have it lowered and well let's just say it was going to cost some money. Now this year Harley made a dream come true for me when they came out with this Fatboy Lo, not only can I sit on it perfect but it only cost around $16,000! So as soon as my daughter turns old enough to take over the Sportster, mama's going to buy her a Fatboy! Women if your looking for something fun and thrilling try riding a Harley, there's just no right words to explain on how getting on one of these bikes riding down the open highway makes you feel!
If looking for an nice scenic place to ride this summer that is close to home, I highly recommend taking highway 66 through East Jordan to highway 119 North to Cross Village. Highway 66 is a nice wide road that is biker friendly, with lots of hills and curves to keep you moving. Once you hit Jordan Valley the ride through there is just beutiful, the landscape will almost take your breath away. Then as you head out on to North 119 you will be riding along lake Michigan. You will go through a few nice little towns. Yet one of the better things between those towns they usally have places where you can park and go out to the Lake and take in the sights. As you get outside of Harbor Springs 119 turns in to a small 2 lane road with lots of hills and curves that will keep you on your clutch but trust me it is all worth it as you drive down this up beat road that bikers like to call the tunnel of tress because the trees are just engulfing the road over head and as you look to one side you can see the lake and to the other beutiful homes. Once you get in to Cross Village there is a wonderful resturant that is called Leggs Inn. They are biker friendly and have great food, along with an outdoor eating area that over looks the lake. Once you are done taking one of Michigans most impressive bike routes you are only about fifteen minutes from the Mackinaw bridge which is another fun ride all in it's own.
We are a biker family, we all love to get out there and ride! So on this blog I will be sharing with you pictures and stories of interesting places to ride in Michigan and any upcoming events that are taking place. If there is anything that you would like to share with me and people reading this blog please do.
